Dr Steedman has over thirty years experience in national and global environment and ocean service businesses, and government environment and marine science agencies. Major private sector positions: Executive Director and CEO of R K Steedman and Associates and Steedman Limited, 1974-1989; Executive Director of Oceanroutes (Australia) Pty Ltd, 1989-1994; Director and CEO of Aerodata Holdings Limited, 1993-1997 and 1997-2000; Chairman of Manatacom Technologies Pty Ltd, 1991-1993, providing advanced science, geophysical fluid dynamics, environmental and technology services and products for the mining, oil and gas, defence and government agency sectors. Major public sector appointments: Councilor and Chairman of the Australian Marine Institute of Marine Science (Townsville), 1982-1991 and 1991-1997; Executive Chairman of the Environmental Protection Authority in Western Australia, 1997-2001; Member State Library Board of Western Australia, 1990-1995. Currently Ray is an ocean and environmental consultant to industry and government; part time Executive Chairman (UNESCO/IOC) Western Australian Global Ocean Observing System, 1992 to present; Governor of Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation, 1985 to present. The Australian Government awarded him the Centenary Medal in recognition of his contribution to society.
